Chart of the Day: Micron Comes Down With a Bout of Volatility

We added Micron ($MU) to TheStreet Pro Portfolio’s EPS All-Stars basket as it posted some amazing growth numbers earlier in the year. This last month showed incredible earnings as well as the company reported stunning gross margins, talked of long-term memory shortages with strong demand and little in the way of resistance (other than eventual supply coming online).

The stock has been on a historic run higher in 2026 along with other names such as Seagate Technology ($STX) and Sandisk ($SNDK), but these runs will eventually fade. For now, we think the runway for earnings and growth have several quarters to settle out.

The steep angle of the price move for Micron is unprecedented, but so is the recent correction that happened just after earnings were posted in late June. What goes up must come down, and we are waiting to see if Micron can plant a firm bottom. Notice how volume declined as Micron sold off, that is a positive development.

The trend is still bullish with higher highs and higher lows, but the indicators on the chart are just turning upward. That is mostly due to the big one-day move up on strong volume this week. The candle turned from purple to amber on that day, so technically neutral on the GoNoGo composite of indicators. Relative strength was oversold and popped on July 21 while the money flow is leaking badly.

A recovery above the 20-day moving would show even more improvement in the chart and carry some nice momentum forward. The company does not report earnings until late September so for Micron to rally more it would have to “draft” from other earnings reports (like Seagate and Western Digital ($WDC) next week, for instance).

As a member of the EPS Diplomats Micron does not have a rating.
